Coming Home

"I've had enough of this place."

"What is this thing? A car seat - I don't know if I like this - it drowns me. I guess this is my first elevator ride too."

"All right Daddy - take me away. Here I go down the hallway."

"Leaving through the Emergency Room door. Those nurses sure did ooh and aww over me. After all, who wouldn't?"

We are now home from the hospital, and enjoying quiet time getting to know each other. Our hospital stay was nice. Our room was at the end of the hallway so we had quite a bit of privacy. In fact, we had so much privacy the nurses didn't remember who was assigned to our room. It's a good thing we didn't have many requests. We relaxed a lot by lounging on the bed (Bruce on the pull out chair), and watched a couple of movies. Our room also had a view of the pond complete with a swan, geese, and ducks. The best part about the hospital stay was getting almost anything and everything I wanted on demand. This included meals. By dialing four buttons on a phone, I had a variety of menu items to order for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I ordered whatever I wanted - there were no limits to the amount of food I could consume. Wonderful!! I was ravenous. I'm really going to miss that.

The first day/night, I wanted Eliza in our room the whole time. I didn't sleep well - not because of Eliza - I kept hearing the baby across the hall (who sadly enough cried all night). I had to sleep with the door open because it was so hot in our room.

The second night, the nurses took Eliza to the nursery, and brought her into me to be fed on demand. She was so sweet at the 2:00 am feeding. The nurse laid her down next to me. With her eyes wide open, she reached out for me and gave me a sweet look that said, "please feed me mommy!" I want to remember it forever.
It was nice to not have to worry about her and get some much needed rest. (The mother across the hall also opted for her baby to be sent to the nursery.)

This morning about 10:00 am, the pediatrician came in to get Eliza for her final measurements. Bruce and I laid down to try and rest. We didn't realize we had fallen asleep until the nurses came in an hour and a half later holding a very upset Eliza. They wanted us to get some sleep, and decided that after nearly 30 minutes of trying to calm her down - they had to resort to waking me up. Later I saw a sign on our door that said "Quiet Please, Baby asleep" with the Baby crossed out and "Mom and Dad" hand written over it. (Silly me, I forgot to take a picture, and sadly left the sign on the door)

We are glad to be home where we can relish our little Eliza and marvel at her cute, precious, and adorable personality.

"My new home. Thanks for the beautiful blanket great grandma Smith - I was surprised to see it arrived home before I did. I love you!"

Wow, if you got to sleep at all in the hospital, your experience was very different than mine (with the first baby)! I think our nurses were determined to make sure I left as sleep deprived as possible! I'm glad Eliza is well and safe, and that you are all home and happy!

She is truly beautiful! It sounds like you had a wonderful hospital stay. Soak up every moment of that newborn! I LOVE cuddling with my babies. I still cuddle with my 5 month old, but there is just something so special about that first month that you never get back.
