A Different Video

I don't know what the problem is with Blogger and not allowing me to upload my videos. The 5 day old video is being as fickle as Eliza and refuses to upload. I will keep trying, and maybe be the time she is 5 years old, you can see her alertness at 5 days old. In the meantime, I shot another video of her (shorter this time). Near the end of the video, she is supposed to be saying Hi to Grandma, but my camera ran out of batteries and shut off before she could get a chance. So.. I'll say it for her, "Hi Grandma." We are getting excited to take a trip out to Utah to see grandma. I must admit that I am a bit nervous about traveling and flying with a 3 week old baby, but hopefully everything will go well. I'm terrified to have to nurse her in public (I do have a cover that was anonymously sent to me in the mail) because we are still having some nursing issues that we need to work out.

I call her Baby Cakes or the cakester. We also occassionally call her the Barracuda because of how she nurses (when she decides to that is), or Miss Piggly Wiggly because she snorts like a pig whens he is trying to latch on, and won't sit still for a moment. She is a calm baby - calm as in content, not calm as in sit still. She moves around and wiggles out of things more than any other baby I know.

Whenever I get frustrated with her during those tramatizing feeding sessions; Bruce always makes her face me and says, "Look at that face." As you can see by this video - that face melts my heart every time, and I am willing to struggle/ fight her for another hour. Eliza's strong personality is another post all on its own. Enjoy the video!!

Nursing is tricky Britt. I know... I've had my share of trouble with it. What I will tell you is that it WILL work, if you just keep at it. For most moms it takes 3-4 weeks to get it working just right. I even had trouble with my 3rd and I'm very experienced at nursing and knew just what to do. I'm sorry she's giving you grief, but don't give up yet. :) I know she (and you) will figure it out.

If it makes you feel any better, I remember not being completely comfortable nursing until Claire was a month old. It was hard to teach her and latching was tricky. Neither of us knew what we were doing, so it just took time.

With Linus he was in the NICU and therefore had feeding tubes and bottles so it was hard to teach him. Getting him to latch at all was even WORSE than a nightmare. I would have given up I think if I hadn't made it work with Claire and I knew I just had to keep trying.

With D - I had no problems latching her or teaching her, she was a natural born nurser. However, she was such a vigorous eater that it took MORE than 4 weeks of me being on 800 ml Ibuprofen just to dull the pain every time she latched on. I used an entire giant tube of lanolin and a pack of comfort gel pads. Oh, it was agony. But now it's fine. :) For the most part.... (barring the fact that I lost my milk when she was 3 months old, but that's another story).

Oh, Eliza is the sweetest thing! About two days after you gave birth I wondered if you had had her already, so I checked your blog thrilled to see that little Eliza arrived!! For some reason I couldn't make a comment then, but I'm glad I can now.

I love her name. So classic and so beautiful. The videos you've taken are so sweet. She looks so alert and full of personality!

I hope to meet her someday! Henry misses you both, too. His dancing skills are getting even better--if that's possible! ;)

Oops, it says Todd, but it's me, Rachel. :)
