I have some catching up to do. On May 14th and 15th, Bruce graduated with his PhD from the University of Illinois in Dairy Science. We left Pennsylvania in the afternoon of Thursday the 12th and drove to Columbus, Ohio where we stayed with our friends the Wheelers (Justin and Breanna, not Jason and Kara). We arrived in Illinois on Friday the 13th, and picked up Bruce's robes from campus. We stayed the whole week with Bruce's cousin Aubrey and Drew Dokos. Thanks for letting us stay with you!

Saturday's commencement in the college of Aces was long and boring. Two hours of plain name reading is not the most exciting thing. Dr. Murphey stood in for Bruce's major professor and officially hooded him - a sign that he obtained a doctorate degree.

Sunday's campus wide ceremony was surprisingly short. With music interspersed with the speakers, the time went by quickly. It helped that they only read the names of those earning a PhD. Only the "doctors" got the privilege of walking across the stage. Bruce was also hooded again - this time by the shortest person on the stage. The commencement speaker was Bill Daley - President Obama's chief of staff. He encouraged the graduates to be curious and continue learning in any way they can.

If you feel so inclined, you can watch the entire commencement ceremony if you feel so inclined by going
here. Watch the 2:00 commencement ceremony to see Bruce.
If you want to skip through most of it and see Bruce, he walks in at approximately 1:57, walks across the stage at approximately 1:09:09, and is the "face" or rather "tassel" of graduation at 1:42:30. Enjoy!!

Congratulations Mr. Bruce (or should I say Dr. Bruce). You worked hard for that degree and endured through the rigors of your program even when you got discouraged and wanted to quit. I sure am proud of you. You deserve to be called a Dr. (even if you are the kind that doesn't do anyone any good.) :)
