BIG NEWS!!!

It may seem small to some, but to me it is big news! My 7th grade volleyball team lost the sectional championship game on Monday night, and the 8th grade volleyball team lost the regional semi-finals game on Tuesday night. What does this mean? Volleyball season is OVER!! I feel somewhat guilty by saying that I am secretly (I guess not so secretly anymore) relieved. I was getting overly frusterated with volleyball and burned out to boot. Although I wish my 7th graders would have won on Monday night (it would have been nice to go to state), I am happy that my 8th graders lost for 2 reasons. 1)I can kind of have my spare time back. My evenings can be devoted to cleaning my house, playing softball games for the law school softball team, running, and my favorite thing reading. 2)The 8th graders never took anything seriously at practice or other games. They always had some kind of drama going on, and didn't try very hard to improve. This was frusterating to me because I often felt like I was wasting my time with a bunch of girls who didn't care how well they played or to improve. Practice became a joke and a goof around session in which no amount of yelling or chastizing would rectify the situation. They said the whole year that the 7th grade team was terrible and would never win any games. They believed it was lucky when the 7th graders beat them in our scrimmage games at practice. The 7th graders not only had a better record than they did, but they also made it two games farther in the state playoffs and brought home the regional plague. The 8th graders failed to do any of this. I felt inside that the 8th graders deserved to lose that game to teach them a simple lesson. Nothing is going to be handed to you in life. You have to play the game in order to win. They weren't willing to put in the extra effort to win the game. The team we lost to didn't do anything spectacular, and we really should have creamed them had we played to the potential and ability those girls actually have. They were much more athletic than the 7th grade team, but were much more lazy.
I am releived. A huge frustration has just been lifted off my shoulders.

What else will I be doing with the extra time. Trying to get the school play off and running. Some students of mine wrote a short play in conjunction with the spring music concert. They solicted my help in producing it, and I agreed.
Over the next month my thoughts will be consumed with getting through the rest of the school year, running for my marathon, and trying to get the show on.! Wish me luck.

I'm glad volleyball is over for your sake. I've never coached and as a player I never gave too much thought to how much my coaches invested emotionally. I hope that next year when you coach your 8th grade team you will have a better experience. If they have a good attitude I bet they will learn a ton from you.
Good luck with the show!
