Memorial Day

We celebrated Memorial Day with a day of fun events.  We attended the Perkasie Memorial Day parade.  The kids had a fun time waving their flags while waiting for the parade to make it's way down the street.

The Pennridge High School marching band

This mini-car was super cute, even though it had a hard time running.  The parade was put on hold to get this car running again.

Hazel Mae was very content sitting in this kid size camping chair.

A bass band playing patriotic songs stopped in front of us for a moment.  Zabien definitely got his groove on with his American flag.  Eliza quickly followed suit when she saw how much fun he was having.

The old style fire trucks were a hit with Zabien.

They kids' first experience with a parade was in Utah last year  in which they scored half a bag of candy.  I thought they might be disappointed at this parade since hardly anyone throws candy.  They did manage to scrounge up 3 pieces each.  Unfortunately, we got to the parade after it had already started, so there wasn't many open places available.  We found a spot on the corner, and quickly learned that it wasn't a good spot.  Half the candy thrown our direction fell straight down the gutter before we had a chance to pick it up.  We will know next year to choose a better spot.

After the parade, we went to the annual ward Memorial day picnic.  This is always a highly anticipated and well attended event.  After a very quick lunch, the kids headed out in the field to play baseball, soccer, volleyball, and their own version of Lacrosse.  Ok, so they didn't really play, but they sure tried.  I love how much of a go-getter Zabien is.  He didn't let the fact that all the other players were at least 5 years older than him deter him from trying.  He mostly wanted to kick the ball - he didn't care which direction it went, he chased the ball everywhere it went.

After the picnic, we headed home for some popsicles.
Hazel enjoyed sharing hers

We finished out the day by cooling off at the pool.  It's funny how much growing up a kid can do in only a year.  At the end of last summer, we were still trying to convince Zabien to go down the frog slide.  This year, we were at the pool for 5 minutes and he had already gone down a dozen times.

Hazel was pretty hesistant to get in the water.  She meandered up the stairs in an effort to keep up with the other kids, but wasn't a fan of the water splashing her on the slide.  I toted her around the majority of the time.

I think this picture sums up Zabien completely.  He's our little fish.

Eliza joined in on the excitement as well.  She has gotten significantly braver in the pool this year.  I'm kind of thinking that maybe I should have signed her up for swim lessons this year - she may have actually done it.

Maybe we will get you to like the swimming pool by the end of the season.

A packed fun filled day.  There's nothing like coming home and crashing in bed for the next 12 hours.  Here's to more fun days of summer!
