First Rice Cereal Feeding

Baby Cakes, you are supposed to eat what is inside the box, not the box itself.

The first rice cereal feeding was successful. I think the novelty of the spoon and sitting in her own chair played a big part of it. I'm not sure if she actually likes the cereal, or likes the idea of getting a spoon. She prefers it runny - mostly milk. I suppose the reason is that is what she is used to.

Baby Cakes has spent many meals sitting on our laps and sticking her hand in our food. I thought she would really relish eating her own, but she almost seems too impatient for it. I'm still trying to figure out the right consistency and timing it with her regular feedings.

Yummy food off a real spoon.

Some nights she does well eating it. Other times she just spits it out and cries. It's either because she is too tired to eat, it's too thick, or she just doesn't like it. She will eat it better if I sing her a silly song about how yummy it is between every bite. I know that at this point, it is mostly for fun and not a major source of nutrition, but eventually she will have to stop nursing and eat real food.

Happy girl! With that little tongue again - it pops up in almost all of her smiles now days.

It's always so tricky to figure out the food thing!! Deirdre was funny... she took the first couple of feedings fine and then started to balk BIG TIME. I had to quit for a few weeks and then try again. As long as I kept it thin she went for it. Then I SLOWLY thickened it up. Now she's a fabulous eater. :)
